Social Media

For a long time I hated “social media.” I got to be on all the random platforms? I can’t just work on my blog and that’s it? To that I say, yes. You can’t be one dimensional anymore.

Build a business on rented land

I take the contrarian position that yes, you should build your business on rented land and learn how to be social by using platforms like X, LinkedIn, and YouTube to extract attention from the masses and funnel it toward your own digital assets.

Books for Social Media:

The Anthology of Balaji (Eric Jorgenson) – A deep dive on the wisdom of Balaji Srinivasan. I found the building of “Digital Nations” and network effects to be useful.

Hooked (Nir Eyal) – How to build habit forming products. A breakdown of social media and why you keep checking the same 4 apps again and again.

Trust Me, I’m Lying (Ryan Holiday) – A brutal look at how the modern attention economy actually functions.

The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing (Al Ries & Jack Trout) – A classic that breaks down why certain “personal brands” win on social while others fail.
